Jennifer Carney

Jennifer is our owner and fearless leader. She was born and raised in The Woodlands, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University (WHOOP) in 2006. She went on to teach 8th grade math at Riverwood Middle School in Kingwood. After teaching for five years, she identified a real need to help students outside of the classroom with a more individualized approach. In 2011, she decided to take a leap of faith and start Carney’s Tutoring. Being a student that struggled growing up, she wanted to offer something affordable and easily accessible to students and parents. Jennifer’s passion in life has always been to make a difference through teaching, and Carney’s Tutoring allows her to use that passion to help her customers succeed .

Kathy Pickett

Hi, I’m Kathy Pickett.  I moved to Kingwood 40 years ago and love our community.  After spending 20 years in public education, I retired and now teach part time and continue while continuing to tutor students at Carney’s.  I’ve been with Carney’s Tutoring since its opening in 2011 and I absolutely love coming to work here!  I am Texas certified in Math, Social Studies, Language Arts and Special Education, but the majority of my experience is in middle school math and Algebra I.  I look forward to helping with your student’s success.

Angela Tyler

Hi, I’m Angela Tyler. My background is in engineering, business, and law. I entered the tutoring arena as an instructor for graduate entrance exams at a national firm. I then expanded to other exams and individual subjects as my schedule allowed. Standardized tests aren’t a chore, but rather an opportunity to differentiate yourself from the crowd and win lucrative scholarships. Even the smartest student can sharpen their timing and test-taking skills through specialized tutoring sessions. I wish I had that advantage years ago.

Hi! I’m Elaine Phillips. I am the Spanish tutor at Carney’s Tutoring. I’ve been a Kingwood resident for 30 years. I have three bachelor’s degrees; one of which is in Spanish. I was working on my master’s degree when I was diagnosed for the first time with cancer in 2009. I have taught Spanish at St. Martha’s school, been a substitute teacher in Spanish in Humble ISD for 12 years, and tutored Spanish at Carney’s for over a decade. I’ve traveled to Mexico & Spain numerous times. I hope I can help the students here not only pass Spanish class, but recognize the importance & advantage of speaking a second language! ¡Ojalá que nos vemos pronto!
